Is the “mad-genius” myth true? In this talk, author and psychologist Dr. Gregory J. Feirst discusses a research project that replicates and extends one the biggest and most important studies on mental health and creativity of world-class eminent and creative individuals (Ludwig, 1995, The Price of Greatness). His research team finds that lifetime rates of mental illness are elevated in the creative arts professions compared to the natural and social sciences (and the base-rate in eminent but non-creative people (athletes) and in the general population). This event was organized by the Moraine Valley Psychology Department.
