We just added Scott McCloud’s book Understanding Comics: The Invisible Art to the library’s collection. This book is an analysis of comic books/graphic novels as an art form. It is detailed, analytic, and thoughtful. After this, you’ll never think of comics in the same way. By the way, we have several items about the history, form, and impact of comic books and graphic novels (search comic books in the library catalog)
If you are interested in McCloud’s thinking, you may find this TED Talk to be of interest:

Description: In this unmissable look at the magic of comics, Scott McCloud bends the presentation format into a cartoon-like experience, where colorful diversions whiz through childhood fascinations and imagined futures that our eyes can hear and touch.
