The awareness of sexual assault in the military has been building for some time. But with the Senate hearing earlier this month and the very different bills recently presented to congress to deal with the issue, media attention seems to have reached an all-time high.
The library has a couple of resources related to sexual assault in the military, and I want to highlight the recent documentary The Invisible War. This film focuses on the stories of survivors and examines the difficult choices they are forced to make in the aftermath of their assault. An Academy Award nominee, this documentary has been credited with helping to bring this “invisible” issue to the forefront of our conversation about the military as an institution. More information about the film, a trailer, and additional resources are available at the PBS website.
