Services for Job Seekers & Entrepreneurs

There are a number of upcoming events put on by the Illinois WorkNet Center of Northern Cook County that might be of interest to job seekers or entrepreneurs.  The Power Employment Workshops train volunteers to mentor job seekers in the job search process.  Workshop volunteers have enjoyed a high rate of hiring after participating.  WorkNet workshops may be attended by anyone, however other WorkNet services (e.g. counseling, teachers, computer labs, and classes) are only available to recipients of WIA (Workforce Investment Act), low-income, or youth (youth in school or youth out-of-school) grants and residents of the relevant county.

On December 5, there will be a major job fair for people interested in manufacturing jobs.  The Midwest Manufacturing Expo & Job Fair in Arlington Heights, Illinois is sponsored by, and will feature a presentation by the Illinois Reshoring Initiative.

If you have an entrepreneurial spirit, the Illinois Dept. of Commerce & Economic Opportunity is an incredibly useful resource for starting a business.  Usually, they handle questions about complying with federal, state, or local regulations.  These services can also be access by previously established businesses.  Furthermore, the Business Information Center will begin providing assistance with securing loans and venture capital for starting a business.
