Plants to Civil War Artifacts: New Illinois Resources Are Now Online

Two new online resources, searchMOR: The Plants Database of The Morton Arboretum and Vestiges of a Nation Divided: The Civil War’s Impact on Northern Illinois, went live in the past few weeks. These new resources will be great additions to your research papers and presentations:

The Plants Database of The Morton Arboretum:Check out searchMOR and browse if they have your favorite flower and/or plant. You can find out the scientific names, look at photographs, and other details about the arboretum’s plants collection.  The link above will take you directly to the plants database:

  • This online database provides integrated access to data on the plants of The Morton Arboretum living collections and herbarium, as well as to our interactive collections map, scanned herbarium sheets, and photographs of living plants. (The Morton Arboretum)

Vestiges of a Nation Divided: The Civil War’s Impact on Northern Illinois: Browse and learn more about impact of the civil war on the people of Northern Illinois. This online exhibit through flickr gives a perspective of the lives of many individuals once hidden in the archives. The link above will take you to an introduction of the exhibit which will then take you to their flickr online page:

  • The items in the Vestiges of a Nation Divided exhibit are from the archives of the Regional History Center located at Northern Illinois University. Although they originate across the country, each letter, photograph, or drawing has roots that trace back to the northern Illinois region. (Regional History Center, Northern Illinois University)
