Earth Day is a fairly modern invention in the US, but the movement to protect and conserve our environment stretches back throughout US history. When reviewing this history, one cannot miss John Muir, who is a larger than life figure. He was originally from Wisconsin, but soon became a wanderer who ended up in California. He was at one time a botanist explorer, guide, writer, and environmental advocate.
