Today, July 18th, is the 93rd birthday of Nobel Peace Prize winner Nelson Mandela. Jailed for 27 years, Mandela is known for leading the the anti-apartheid movement in South Africa and becoming the country’s first black president. He won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1993 “for [his] work for the peaceful termination of the apartheid regime, and for laying the foundations for a new democratic South Africa.”
