Today on “Morning Edition” on NPR, I heard a fascinating story about how researchers like Jim Stigler, a professor of psychology at UCLA, are studying how differently the East and West approach the experience of intellectual struggle.
While the West views the struggle itself more as an obstacle, the East looks at it as an opportunity, as an integral part of the learning process. Believe it or not there are advantages and disadvantages to each system.
