Yesterday saw the launch of the Digital Public Library of America (DPLA), a portal to freely-available digitized cultural heritage materials from libraries, archives, and museums across the U.S.
You can search or browse by timeline, map, format, and topic, and explore digital exhibitions–including “Boston Sports Temples” and “Activism in the United States”–curated by the DPLA’s content partners and staff.
And because the DPLA has an application programming interface (API) and a commitment to open data, developers anywhere can create apps and other discovery tools that make use of the DPLA’s data (so far there are two apps available in the App Library).
