This week is Banned Books Week! There are events taking place all over the country dedicated to celebrating the freedom to read. To find out how to participate in person or online, visit the Banned Books Week events page, or their Youtube Channel.
Think banned & challenged books are a thing of the past? This Google map shows locations of book challenges and bans between 2007-2011! The American Library Association’s Office for Intellectual Freedom (OIF) receives reports from libraries, schools, and the media on attempts to ban books in communities across the country. They put together lists of challenged and banned books every year in order to inform the public about censorship efforts that affect libraries and schools.
