In late 2010, conservators at the Museo del Prado in Madrid rediscovered a canvas by Flemish Renaissance painter and printmaker Pieter Bruegel the Elder when X-rays of The Wine of Saint Martin’s Day revealed his signature.
In Pieter Bruegel (Abbeville Press Publishers, 2011), art historian Larry Silver (Ph.D. Harvard, 1974) offers a comprehensive re-examination of this 16th-century artist best known for his depictions of peasants and landscapes. Silver analyzes all of Bruegel’s drawings, prints, and paintings, including the Prado’s newest find. This large-scale book includes high-quality, full-color reproductions of all of Bruegel’s surviving works. Find it in the Library’s catalog here.
