I just finished cataloging the book, Failure is Not an Option: Mission Control from Mercury to Apollo 13 and Beyond, by former NASA Flight Director, Gene Kranz. Kranz was portrayed by Ed Harris in the 1995 Ron Howard movie Apollo 13 about the ill-fated 13th Apollo mission bound for the moon. In his book Gene Kranz recounts the thrilling historic events and offers new information about the famous flights that make up the early years of the U.S. space program, from the beginning of the Mercury missions through the end of the Apollo missions to the moon, including the Apollo 13 mission and the rescue of the three Astronauts aboard.
Look for Failure is Not an Option to “touch down” on the New Books display very soon. In the mean time, here is a short clip of Ed Harris as Gene Kranz from the movie Apollo 13, which we also have in the collection.
