50th Anniversary Video-Ray Pietryla and Kay Schneegas, Retired Physical Education Faculty Members

Moraine Valley Community College celebrates it 50th Anniversary this year. To learn more about and to re-live some of what those five decades have been like, the college has been collecting oral histories. Each week this semester we will highlight one of those videos.

This week, like so many people do at this time of year, we are focusing on fitness. Ray Pietryla and Kay Schneegas taught Physical Education for the college and were here in the early days of the campus when facilities for activities were sparse. They discuss the various places around the community where they held classes such as parks and a hotel swimming pool. They also talk about the many community connections that were made through recreation. Groups came to campus from places like the Elim School and Pine Manor Nursing Home and they started a Special Olympics on campus.

See below for the interview video. To enjoy more of these oral histories, historic photos, and documents you can visit the MVCC College Archives.
